Staff stationed at the Ministry of Public Utilities’ head office would be able to return to work today following the office’s closure on Monday to facilitate sanitization.
Over the weekend three members of staff tested positive for COVID-19.
Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonsales told Guardian Media all health protocols were followed.
“The fumigation and sanitization, the shutting down of the building for these things to happen- was in accordance with the Ministry of Health guidelines,” he said.
“Members of staff should have absolutely nothing to be concerned about and they should come out tomorrow please God to continue their work that they’re accustomed doing.”
He said reports reaching him indicate that the infected employees only came in contact with three others at the office and that Ministry of Health’s contact tracing exercises were ongoing to locate their contacts outside of the workplace.
On Sunday night, an alert was posted to the ministry’s Facebook page on behalf of its permanent secretary Nicolette Duke advising staff that the office would be closed on Monday for fumigation as a consequence of the reported infections. It went on to urge members of staff to continue adhering to all health protocols such as the wearing of facemasks and frequent hand washing or sanitization.
