COVID-19 claims 2 more lives, toll at 95

The coun­try has record­ed two ad­di­tion­al COVID-19-re­lat­ed deaths, the Min­istry of Health con­firmed in its up­date yes­ter­day, tak­ing the virus’ death toll lo­cal­ly up to 95.

The re­cent deaths, the min­istry said, were an el­der­ly male and a fe­male whom both had pre-ex­ist­ing med­ical con­di­tions.

Af­ter con­tin­u­ous­ly de­creas­ing over the past few days de­spite the con­fir­ma­tion of ad­di­tion­al cas­es, the num­ber of ac­tive cas­es in­creased yes­ter­day as there were 47 more cas­es con­firmed. Ac­tive cas­es are now 1,601, with 1,460 in home self-iso­la­tion.

The new­ly-con­firmed cas­es bring the to­tal num­ber of peo­ple to be in­fect­ed lo­cal­ly to 5,241. Of these, 3,545 have re­cov­ered from the virus.

The min­istry con­firmed 43 peo­ple were re­leased from its care; sev­en were dis­charged from pub­lic health fa­cil­i­ties while 36 were re­leased from home self-iso­la­tion as re­cov­ered com­mu­ni­ty cas­es.

The min­istry’s up­date in­di­cat­ed that the 98 pa­tients re­main­ing in hos­pi­tal were spread across four fa­cil­i­ties: 61 at the Cou­va mul­ti-Train­ing Fa­cil­i­ty, 20 at the Cau­ra Hos­pi­tal, three at the Ari­ma Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal and 14 at the Scar­bor­ough Re­gion­al Hos­pi­tal. The 43 peo­ple in step-down/tran­si­tion­al fa­cil­i­ties were spread across three fa­cil­i­ties: 26 at the Clax­ton Bay Cor­rec­tion­al Fa­cil­i­ty, 11 at the UWI Debe Cam­pus and six in To­ba­go.

The min­istry’s up­date al­so in­di­cat­ed there were 244 peo­ple in state quar­an­tine fa­cil­i­ties.
