The country has recorded two additional COVID-19-related deaths, the Ministry of Health confirmed in its update yesterday, taking the virus’ death toll locally up to 95.
The recent deaths, the ministry said, were an elderly male and a female whom both had pre-existing medical conditions.
After continuously decreasing over the past few days despite the confirmation of additional cases, the number of active cases increased yesterday as there were 47 more cases confirmed. Active cases are now 1,601, with 1,460 in home self-isolation.
The newly-confirmed cases bring the total number of people to be infected locally to 5,241. Of these, 3,545 have recovered from the virus.
The ministry confirmed 43 people were released from its care; seven were discharged from public health facilities while 36 were released from home self-isolation as recovered community cases.
The ministry’s update indicated that the 98 patients remaining in hospital were spread across four facilities: 61 at the Couva multi-Training Facility, 20 at the Caura Hospital, three at the Arima General Hospital and 14 at the Scarborough Regional Hospital. The 43 people in step-down/transitional facilities were spread across three facilities: 26 at the Claxton Bay Correctional Facility, 11 at the UWI Debe Campus and six in Tobago.
The ministry’s update also indicated there were 244 people in state quarantine facilities.
