The decomposing body of a mentally challenged man was found in some bushes at Guaico Village Street, Sangre Grande, on Monday.
The victim was identified as Stephen Joseph, 60.
Joseph’s body was discovered around 12.30 pm on August 15, by a 55-year-old relative who had gone to check on him and detected a stench coming from the back of the house where Joseph had been living for the past 30 years.
Eastern Division officers were led to a bushy area where they saw Joseph’s body which was in an advanced state of decomposition, lying on a piece of sponge.
Joseph's relative said he was mentally challenged and unemployed.
The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, where an autopsy is to be conducted.
