A Chaguanas DJ died and three others suffered injuries when the car they were travelling in crashed into a utility pole on Sunday morning.
Investigators believe the driver of the car, which crashed near the Couva interchange, fell asleep, leading to Kernell Alexander, 26 of Chase Village suffering fatal injuries.
A police report stated that around 4 am, four people were in a Nissan Sunny B15 travelling South on the Solomon Hochoy Highway. One of the passengers recalled that as the driver nodded, the car veered off the road and headed towards the utility pole. The passenger tried to control the steering wheel but the vehicle still struck the pole and crashed on the shoulder.
When police and ambulance arrived on the scene, they found Alexander already dead. The driver and other passengers, including another DJ, Selecta Leary, were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital. Investigators said that the DJs had played at a radio station in Port-of-Spain earlier that night and were on their way to visit a friend in Couva when the crash occurred.
