Education Ministry officials, TTUTA begin talks ahead of second school term

Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Dr Nyan Gads­by-Dol­ly and Min­is­ter in the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion (MOE) Lisa Mor­ris-Ju­lian yes­ter­day met with of­fi­cials of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Uni­fied Teach­ers As­so­ci­a­tion (TTUTA) to dis­cuss rec­om­men­da­tions for the op­er­a­tions of schools for Term II which will get un­der­way in Jan­u­ary 2022.

Al­so present was As­sem­bly­man Marslyn Melville-Jack who is the sec­re­tary of Com­mu­ni­ty De­vel­op­ment, En­ter­prise De­vel­op­ment and Labour Sec­re­tary of Ed­u­ca­tion, In­no­va­tion and En­er­gy.

TTUTA raised sev­er­al is­sues and con­cerns re­lat­ing to the health sit­u­a­tion in Trinidad and To­ba­go with spe­cif­ic ref­er­ence to COVID-19, and the pro­to­cols re­gard­ing the han­dling of COVID-19 cas­es and san­i­ti­za­tion at schools.

Ac­cord­ing to the state­ment from the Ed­u­ca­tion Min­istry, it as­sured that con­tin­ued em­pha­sis will be paid to sup­port­ing school per­son­nel through the col­lab­o­ra­tion be­tween the Ed­u­ca­tion Dis­trict Health Unit (ED­HU) and the Dis­trict Coun­ty Med­ical Of­fi­cer of Health (CMOH).

Ad­di­tion­al­ly, ac­cord­ing to the state­ment, TTUTA re­quest­ed that they be pro­vid­ed with the draft rec­om­men­da­tions from the min­istry with re­spect to the op­er­a­tions of schools in Term II 2021/2022, fol­low­ing which they would de­lib­er­ate and prof­fer com­ments.

The Ed­u­ca­tion Min­istry said this will be pro­vid­ed af­ter to­day's meet­ing with the wider ed­u­ca­tion stake­hold­er body.
