Two elderly women were attacked during violent home invasions this week—one chopped with a metal weapon in St Joseph and another tied up and robbed in Chaguanas.

In the first incident, a 72-year-old woman was injured after confronting a masked intruder at her Farfan Street, St Joseph home around midday on Tuesday. She had just finished hanging clothes when she noticed muddy footprints leading into her house. Inside, she found the bedroom door open and was met by a man in a mask. She screamed, but the suspect chopped her on the head and finger with what she described as “a metal object with two sharp points.” An iPad and PlayStation console were stolen.

Then, around 12 am Thursday in Chaguanas, a 60-year-old woman was attacked after she went outside to close her front gate. She was ambushed by three bandits—one armed with a knife and another with a gun—who forced her back into the house and tied her up with electrical cords. The robbers stole a quantity of jewellery before fleeing.

Police in both districts are continuing investigations.
