Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Farley Augustine, says no elections on the island will be called, despite various calls for him to do so.
The demand for fresh elections came after Augustine and his entire executive resigned from the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP), the party under which they campaigned for the last THA elections (December 6, 2021).
However, speaking with Guardian Media this morning, Augustine said the THA Act is clear and he and his team can run the island's affairs as independents.
"So, no elections," he said.
He did say though that he and his team will be consulting with the Tobago public soon with the aim of forming a new political party.
