Five of the eight prisoners who escaped from the Golden Grove prison sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, have been recaptured.
Prisons Commissioner Gerard Wilson confirmed to Guardian Media Limited that the men were captured Wednesday afternoon in Las Lomas.
They have been identified as: Mikhale Mohammed, Steffon Austin, Joshua Janet, Brent Johnson and Kerry Valentino.
This follows and mass search by prison officers, police and soldiers Wednesday, during which a National Security helicopter crashed in Windy Hill, Arouca.
The T&T Police Service had issued an All-Points Bulletin for the inmates who escaped from the Remand Yard at Golden Grove Prison in Arouca.
Prison sources told Guardian Media the men escaped through a hole in the wall from their cell in the south upper block of the prison.
They were discovered missing at 8.40 am today.
The escapees have been identified as Kerry Valentino, Atiba Sealey, Joshua Janet, Olatunji Denbow, Kyle Belgrave, Stephen Austin, Brent Johnson and Mikhale Mohammed.
Sources say there is ongoing construction at the Remand Yard in which new toilets are being installed in cells.
The men, who were all in the same cell, are facing charges ranging from murder to gun-related offenses.
They were considered armed and dangerous.
Members of the public had been asked to circulate the photos provided and to contact the nearest police station if they saw the escapees, or had any information that could lead to their recapture.
