Evolving parental leave policy is quite simply and is the right thing to do says Chief People Officer of Liberty Latin America, parent company of Cable and Wireless and its consumer brand Flow Trinidad.
He made the remark as employees of Flow Trinidad can now enjoy paid maternity leave of 16 weeks and paid paternal leave of eight weeks.
The policy will provide paid leave to employees following the birth of an employee’s child, placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption or foster care, or birth of a child via gestational surrogacy.
Scott said the company recognised that diversity drives success, and family dynamics and structures have changed.
He said, “Our new policy demonstrates our commitment to a culture of diversity and inclusion and one that puts our people at the heart of our success.” The initiative is dubbed an innovative and progressive policy,
Speaking about the new initiative, newly appointed Flow Country Manager Kurleigh Prescod said he was elated a for all of the mothers who will have fathers around for eight weeks after birth.
The company said staff members noted that parental leave policy is important to both parents and new-borns and is a commendable initiative by the company.
They said it will give parents time to bond with their new-born and allows mothers the opportunity to get support from the father during a time that can be very trying for them.
Yolande Agard-Simmons, another employee said she was particularly impressed that the policy will cover those who may become parents via adoption.
She said the policy is novel, laudable and speaks volumes about a commitment to the quality of life as employees.
