Marcus Jacob, the nephew of former acting Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob, was granted $800,000 bail on eight charges, including the murder of former police officer Syed Mohammed.
On December 20, 2022, Jacob appeared before a Siparia magistrate for the murder of Mohammed and he was remanded into custody.
His attorney Kiran Panday appealed to the court for this release and upon hearing yesterday, High Court Justice Nalini Singh granted bail with surety to cover all charges.
His bail is under the condition that he reports to the Princes Town Police Station three days a week, reside at a specific address during the duration of the matter, a prohibition against applying for any travel documents, and that he not contact directly or indirectly and keep at least 200 feet away from witnesses in the case.
Police held Jacob, who goes by the alias McDonald and Blackface, following the fatal shooting of Mohammed outside his home along Katwaroo Trace, Penal, on December 12, 2022.
After an investigation, police charged him with possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition to endanger life, possession of a firearm to danger life, fraudulent use of an identification mark, possession of ammunition, and possession of a firearm.
