Just over an hour before a 14-year-old schoolgirl walked into her home and found her grandmother dead, Debe residents reported hearing two people fighting.
Neighbours of Sita Jagessar, 63, said they saw a relative run to the gate of their Clarkia Drive, Wellington Road home screaming for help on Tuesday evening.
Barrackpore police reported that they responded to a report of homicide around 3.45 pm on Tuesday.
When a team of officers arrived, they saw Jagassar, a mother of three, lying on the floor in her living room with several chop wounds on her face. The schoolgirl told police she had just returned home from school and found her grandmother dead.
Detectives from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, responded and interviewed several people.
And while investigators may have some theories on what happened, they have not yet established a motive or arrested anyone.
There were no family members at Jagessar’s home yesterday and neighbours told Guardian Media they went to Port-of-Spain.
Jagessar’s childhood friend, Paramday Balchan, visited the home yesterday after she only learned of the killing on CNC3 News.
“I knew her since childhood. We born and grew up together in Coconut Drive, Cross Crossing, San Fernando and then she got married and came here,” Balchan said.
She last saw Jagessar a month ago and they shared a meal together. All seemed well with Jagessar, so the way she died, chopped on her face, was shocking, Balchan said.
“She was a good person, nothing to say why anyone would do her that. I am so sorry.”
Undertakers took Jagessar’s body to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy.
