The fingerprinting section of the Port-of-Spain Central Police Station was temporarily relocated on Monday as officers complained of unbearable heat due to non-functioning air-condition unit.
Officers told Guardian Media that the air conditioning has always been unreliable, however, it has not been functioning for the past three weeks.
The officers said they resorted to leaving the front door open and even brought down fans from the dormitory to help the situation but with a completely sealed building with windows that don’t open, there was little else they could do.
This is why around 9 am yesterday the officers began their relocation, moving the fingerprinting station from inside the building to an open area near the entrance of the building where they have set up their workstations.
They said staying in the building for more than five minutes was unbearable.
Officers hope that all departments would not have to vacate the building before the problem is rectified.
Guardian Media reached out to the TTPS but there was no response to the officers’ plight.
Sgt Anslem Forde of The Police Welfare Association said the association was not aware of the situation.
As such, he refrained from commenting on the matter but indicated they would be looking into it.
