Former Justice Minister and former High Court Judge, Herbert Volney, died this morning.
Details are still coming in but Guardian Media understands Mr Volney died of a heart attack at 7:45 am today.
Confirmation has been made by his former cabinet colleague, Dr Roodal Moonilal, who got the news from Mr Volney's wife.
In a social media post, another of Mr Volney's former colleagues, Dr Devant Maharaj, described him as, "a colourful character in Cabinet, as he was in the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago.
"Always a quick wit, he often painted himself as the custodian of Catholic values in Cabinet and representing those with mixed heritage as he was equally proud of his Dominican roots."
