Homi­cide of­fi­cers have been called in to as­sist with an in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to the death of a ba­by who had bruis­es on the chest on Thurs­day evening.

A po­lice re­port said that around 7:05 pm a doc­tor of the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal went to the Bel­mont po­lice sta­tion and re­port­ed that around 10:21 am on Thurs­day, a cou­ple of 7th Street Beetham Gar­dens ar­rived at the NICU of the hos­pi­tal with their son, 32-37 days old, who was un­re­spon­sive. 

At­tempts were made to re­sus­ci­tate the ba­by but proved fu­tile. 

The body bore bruis­es to the chest area. 

The body was sub­se­quent­ly tak­en to the Port-of-Spain mor­tu­ary pend­ing a post-mortem to de­ter­mine the ac­tu­al cause of death.

Po­lice are ex­pect­ed to in­ter­view the cou­ple.
