Homicide officers have been called in to assist with an investigation into the death of a baby who had bruises on the chest on Thursday evening.
A police report said that around 7:05 pm a doctor of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital went to the Belmont police station and reported that around 10:21 am on Thursday, a couple of 7th Street Beetham Gardens arrived at the NICU of the hospital with their son, 32-37 days old, who was unresponsive.
Attempts were made to resuscitate the baby but proved futile.
The body bore bruises to the chest area.
The body was subsequently taken to the Port-of-Spain mortuary pending a post-mortem to determine the actual cause of death.
Police are expected to interview the couple.
