A Jamaican national has been charged with cruelty to a child.
The 42-year-old was granted $60,000 bail with a surety when he appeared virtually before a Scarborough magistrate on Monday charged with the offence.
The accused, of Dutch Fort, Scarborough, Tobago, was granted bail by Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor.
He was charged on Saturday with one count of cruelty to a child by WPC Trim of the Tobago Division of the Child Protection Unit (CPU).
The charge was laid after Trim investigated a report made to the police by a 12-year-old who reported that he was beaten by a man.
The accused was also ordered to have no communication with the child.
He will reappear before the court on March 22.
The investigations were supervised by acting Supt Claire GuyAlleyne, Sgt Millie and Cpl Clarke.
