Police are trying to identify the body of a man whom they suspect was electrocuted, when he attempted to steal cables from Paria Fuel Trading Company.
The body of the Indo-Trinidadian man was discovered by Amalgamated Security officers who were patrolling the estate around 10.15 pm last night. Investigators were told there had been numerous report of thefts of the high voltage electrical cables in the area where the man was found.
A report stated that Estate Constables Warner and Baptiste were driving along Tamarind Drive when they saw the man lying motionless on the roadway. They contacted Paria Fuel Trading’s emergency medical officers and the Marabella police, who confirmed that the man was dead.
A team of investigators from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations: Region Three, including Cpl Bridgemohan and PC Rambhajan, visited the scene and have since classified the death as unnatural. Investigators found burn marks on the man’s hands and stomach; he also had a wound to the back of his head.
The man was believed to be in his twenties, has a short hairstyle, slim built and was 5’7” tall. He wore a dark coloured T-shirt, a pair of long, blue jeans pants and black boots.
A District Medical Officer examined the body and ordered its removal to the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital.
It was expected to be transferred to the Forensic Science Centre, St James for an autopsy, today.
