A 28-year-old Customs officer is in critical condition at the hospital after she sustained burns to her body in a house fire that she allegedly started on Sunday.
According to a police report, a man, who also resides at her home at Carl Jones Street in Arima was also injured.
Police said that at about 4.20 pm the couple were at home when they got into an argument.
The woman left the room, and returned with a bottle and poured the contents onto the floor then lit it. Within seconds, the police said, the house was engulfed in flames.
The man was able to run out of the house and seek help from neighbours, who contacted the emergency services. The woman and man were taken to the Arima Health Facility, where they were both treated.
The man suffered burns to the left side of his body, hands, face and back of the neck.
He is said to be in a stable condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. The woman suffered 80 per cent burns to the body.
