RHONDOR DOWLAT-ROSTANT
A man who broke a red-light and was chased by police officers when intercepted told them, he was rushing to the scene where his father was shot.
The victim was identified as 49-year-old Russel Callender alias Mikey, of Building No. 5 Apartment 4-1, Almond Court, Morvant.
According to a police report, at about 11:38 pm, police officers observed a white Nissan Tiida breach the traffic lights at Morvant Junction. The officers gave chase, and the vehicle came to a stop at Almond Court, Morvant.
The driver, Kareem Callender, exited the vehicle and told the officers that his father had just been shot. He led the officers to Building No. 5 Apartment 4-1, where they observed Callender lying on the ground, wounded from a gunshot wound.
Police officers took him to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Crime Scene personnel processed the scene and retrieved one 9mm spent shell casing with the markings “Luger”.
Enquiries revealed that Callender was home with his mother at about 11 pm when one gunshot was heard.
Callender's aged mother made checks and found him slumped in his bed.
Police are yet to determine a motive for the killing.
