The TT Meteorological Office has extended its adverse weather warning until 4 pm Tuesday.
The Met office warns that periods of rain and/or showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to continue to affect Trinidad and Tobago.
As a result of this, they said street and flash flooding can occur in heavy downpours and there is an increased risk of landslides or landslips in areas with prolonged rainfall.
The office forecasts that winds “can gust in excess of 55km per hour in the vicinity of showers or thunderstorms.”
On Monday, pictures and videos emerged on social media showing rising floodwaters in Chagaunas.
Relief officer of the ODPM, Captain Neville Wint, said that he had received calls from the Chaguanas Regional Corporation but assures there weren’t any distress calls from any other borough or corporation.
Officials from the HDC, including the managing director and engineers, paid a visit to Greenvale Park Monday morning to survey the community and found no signs of flood threats.
According to the corporation’s Facebook page “The containment berm, which was recently constructed, has contained the water and there hasn't been any over-spilling in the community. The HDC will continue to monitor the watercourses in the community.”
During the showers, some communities in Southern Trinidad had a temporary disruption in their electricity supply.
The gusty winds, which accompanied the showers, downed a tree in Santa Flora taking with it some power lines.
But, TTEC was on the scene and restored supply around 11 am.
