The Riverine Flood Alert/YELLOW Level which has been in effect for waterways and low-lying areas in Trinidad over the past couple of days has been discontinued, with the alert status moving to GREEN.
The latest advisory from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) reports:
“The South Oropouche River is now contained at this time and the threat of further riverine flooding has decreased considerably. Some locations remain waterlogged, but this will improve gradually. However, isolated showers this afternoon may slow this process.”
Notwithstanding the downgraded alert status, the Met Service is encouraging the public to continue monitoring weather conditions and river/water levels and to avoid taking unnecessary risks.
The public also is advised to avoid driving or wading through flood waters.
The TTMS says more information and further updates can be had from official sources such as www.odpm.gov.tt and www.metoffice.gov.tt.
