A mother of two on her way home after a prayer service was killed in an early morning accident in La Romaine yesterday.
Precious “Angel” Williams, 23, a hairdresser of Circular Road, Princes Town, died at the scene.
Her husband Michael Williams was among five other people injured in the accident along the South Trunk Road.
According to the police, around 4.30 am, Williams and her husband were in the back seat of a 323 Mazda which had stopped at a red traffic light near Alice Street.
The driver, Keith Mills, was waiting for the traffic light to turn green when a grey wagon rammed the back of his car, causing extensive damage. Williams died in the back seat of the car. Her husband and two other passengers in the Mazda, along with the wagon driver and his passenger, received injuries.
They were all treated at the San Fernando General Hospital. Doctors advised police officers that the wagon driver could not be administered a breathalyser test due to his medical condition. Williams’ eldest sister and best friend Keisha Ellis said the family was in a state of shock.
She said Williams and her husband went to Point Fortin to assist a church member with a thanksgiving service at his home.
They were getting a lift to Princes Town from another church member when the accident occurred.
“I don’t know how to describe this. It is tragic. I am speechless,” said Ellis.
She said her sister’s husband did not leave the scene until her body was removed.
“He suffered a dislocated shoulder and he got hit on his head. His pressure is high.”
Williams was not attending any Carnival activities this year. Instead, she planned to spend the day yesterday at their grandmother’s home in Moruga.
“We were going to have a family lime today. We were going to cook and lime at home,” she said.
Williams’ two children are two-years and 15-months old.
“My sister was kind and loving. She would do anything you ask her to do. She was a good friend, a loving mother and wife. She was the best sister anybody could ask for.”
An autopsy is expected to be performed at the San Fernando mortuary.
The wagon driver, a resident of Avocat Village, Fyzabad, was questioned by police. San Fernando police are continuing investigating.
