Relatives of murder victim Leann Babb are still waiting for the autopsy to be done.
“Waiting for this autopsy is so weary. It is draining. I just want to put my sister to rest,” lamented Joanne Babb, whose sister (Leann) was found murdered at her home last Friday.
Due to a backlog of bodies, Babb said they are still waiting for the autopsy to be done at the Forensic Science Centre in Port-of-Spain.
Babb said, “We haven’t received anything yet because they keep on saying that it have a backup of bodies and we just waiting to get that done and it is taking so long. We have her in a funeral home. We waiting for that call from the police to tell us when we could go up (to the Forensic Science Centre).”
She said she last spoke with the police on Tuesday and was told that the autopsy might have been yesterday but no one contacted them.
Babb said her sister’s body has been at the funeral home since it was removed from her home in Siparia.
Investigators and relatives believe that someone close to the 48-year-old woman bludgeoned her with a hammer. Leann’s 28-year-old son spoke to his mother two days before her body was found. Following this, neither her son nor her relatives could reach her on her home phone.
Leann’s son and a friend eventually went to her home on Friday but the gate was locked. They climbed over a fence and as they approached a window, they detected a foul scent coming from inside the house.
They went to the police station.
When the police responded, they forced their way into the house and found Leann’s body on a bed, wrapped in a sheet. Investigators found a bloody hammer near the bed.
