A 32-year-old Tarouba man was remanded into custody after appearing in court charged with seven offences, including possession of a firearm and cutlass.
Jesse Choon who was arrested on Saturday, has to produce an extract from the court to show that his matters, in particular a wounding with intent, before bail could be considered on the firearm and ammunition charges.
Choon appeared before San Fernando First Court Senior Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor charged with the offences which stemmed from two incidents.
He was charged with being possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and two counts of common assault at Tarouba Settlement.
The other charges stemmed from an incident on September 8 where it is alleged that PC Rishi Persad stopped a AD wagon Choon was driving along Tarouba Settlement Road.
The officer searched Choon and allegedly found a cutlass tucked in his waist. It is further alleged that Choon pulled away his hand violently when the officer attempted to arrest him and a struggle ensued.
With the assistance of other officers Choon was subdued, but Persad allegedly got a strong alcohol scent on his breath and observed that his speech was slurred.
It is alleged that he failed a breathalyser test by 18 microgrammes. For those charges - resisting arrest, possession of a weapon and driving under the influence - he was granted $30,000 bail and alternatively $4,000 cash bail.
Through his attorney, Ainsley Lucky, Choon admitted to having convictions for drunk driving, failing to produce a drivers permit, marijuana possession and obscene language.
Choon claimed that a wounding with intent from 2016 which is listed as pending on his criminal record was discharged. Prosecutor Sgt Gangoo objected to bail based on his critical record. The matter was transferred to the Second Court for September 23.
