A 26-year-old Barataria woman who allegedly threw a liquid into the eyes of a policeman causing him injury has been remanded into custody.
Dimple Walters, 26, a taxi driver, appeared in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court charged with three offences arising out of the incident.
They included wounding PC Ernie Bernard with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault and obscene language.
The charges stemmed from an incident on October 11 at Flirt Bar in Cunupia.
Bernard was liming at the bar when he parted a fight between two women. It is alleged that the accused subsequently threw the liquid in his face.
Bernard remains warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
Walters was charged by Sgt Noel of the Caroni Police Station.
She was represented by attorney Shiva Boodoo.
Court prosecutor Sgt Soodeen asked for an opportunity to have her traced to determine if she had previous convictions or pending matters.
Senior Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan also requested an update on the officer’s condition.
Walters was advised of her right to apply to a judge in chambers for bail. The matter was adjourned to Thursday.
