Ten persons were arrested, and several firearms and ammunition seized, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Northern Division, yesterday.
An official report from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) notes that the 12-hour exercise was carried out between the hours of 1 pm on Wednesday 12th August and 1 am on Thursday 13th August, 2020.
According to the TTPS release, at about 5.10 pm yesterday, a party of officers executed a search warrant at a home on Carmen Street in St Helena. A search of the premises unearthed one chrome and brown revolver with six rounds of .38 ammunition, along with 93 rounds of assorted ammunition. The discovery was made in a room located to the eastern side of the house. The firearm and ammunition were seized, and three persons were arrested in connection with the find.
The officers on the anti-crime exercise also executed a search warrant at a home on San Pablo Street, Valencia. Upon searching the house, officers found and seized one black and green Glock 26 firearm fitted with one magazine and ten rounds nine-millimetre ammunition and one black extended magazine containing 15 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition. The illegal weaponry was located in a wooden cupboard at the south eastern side of the premises. Five persons were arrested in connection with this find.
The TTPS release reports that several drug blocks were searched in the Arima, Pinto, Malabar, La Horquetta, and Maloney districts. During those searches, police found and seized an air pistol. In addition, two persons were arrested for keeping an illegal gaming house.
The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Ramkelawan, ASP Gyan, Insp (Ag)Pitt and supervised by Cpl (Ag) Gordon and PC Hall. It included a party of officers of the Major Operations Unit and Canine Unit.
