Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man whose body was found off the Solomon Hochoy Highway in Gasparillo on Sunday, as gun violence across the country left two other men wounded in separate shootings.
Police said around 4.10 pm, a farmer walking near the National Gas Company pipeline went to tend to his animals when he spotted a man dead in a bushy area near Harmony Hall, opposite the southbound lane of the highway. The man appeared to have been shot or stabbed in the face.
The farmer alerted the Gasparillo Police Station, and officers responded. The victim was not identified up to yesterday evening.
He was described as being of East Indian descent, dark complexion, bald, and sporting a short beard. He was approximately 5’8” tall and weighed about 200 pounds. He was found lying on his back, dressed in a blue jersey, long black trousers, and steel-tipped boots. A pair of glasses was still on his face, while a black Marvin Gaye jersey and gloves were found in his back pocket.
Meanwhile, in Cunaripo, a 34-year-old Tamana taxi driver was shot during a quarrel at a bar on Saturday night.
Police said around 7.30 pm, Terry Roach was at Scotty’s Bar along Guaico Tamana Road when an argument broke out between him and another man he knew. During the altercation, the suspect drew a firearm and fired several shots as Roach ran away.
Roach was hit in his ear and taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital, where he was treated and discharged. The gunman escaped.
In Tobago, Scarborough police are investigating a shooting that left a 21-year-old man nursing injuries.
Police said around 11.10 pm on Sunday, the victim and his younger brother entered an abandoned building about 100 feet from their Sangster Hill home. While inside, the man heard a noise coming from one of the rooms and went to check. He then saw two men, one dressed in dark clothing, and another wearing a black and grey hoodie and a white ski mask, armed with a gun.
The gunman fired several shots before fleeing the scene with his accomplice. The victim later realised he had been shot in the left arm. A neighbour took him to the Scarborough General Hospital, where he was treated.
