The Council for Responsible Political Behaviour has confirmed that the major political parties contesting the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Election have agreed to ratify and abide with the Code of Ethical Political Conduct.
Confirmation came in an official statement signed by the Council’s Chairman, Dr Bishnu Ragoonath.
“PDP Deputy Political Leader Farley Augustine, who is leading his party in the Elections, as well as PNM Tobago Political Leader Tracy Davidson-Celestine, will sign on behalf of their parties,” the Council’s statement says.
“Other candidates who submitted nomination papers on Monday have also been invited to sign onto the Code,” the release added.
According to the statement, the political parties will sign the Code on live television on Friday 8 January 2021 at 7:30 am, on the Tobago Channel 5 morning show Rise and Shine.
“Once the parties and candidates have signed, the Council for Responsible Political Behaviour will begin its monitoring and evaluation of the Parties, candidates and their supporters in their adherence to the Code of Ethical Political Conduct,” the Council stated.
The Council is encouraging members of the public to visit its website at www.politicalethicstt.org to view the Code of Ethical Political Conduct.
It says reports of possible violations of the Code can be emailed to the Council at info@politicalethicstt.org.
