The body of an 80-year-old man was found tied to a tree in his garden on Monday morning by family members who went in search of him, after he failed to return to his home in Wallerfield.
According to a police report, Winston Kallian went to check on his avocado field armed with his licensed 16-guage Winchester shotgun at about 4 am. He did not return home, forcing family members to launch their own search for him.
They reportedly discovered him lying on the ground, hog-tied to a tree. Police said his hands were bound and a green jersey was tied around his neck. Police said Kallian's shotgun was discovered to be missing.
Speaking with the Guardian Media very briefly, Kallian's son, Noel, said his father would usually go to check on their farm at about 4 am. He said they have an animal farm—rearing sheep and goats. He confirmed the family also has a citrus and avocado orchard.
Noel Kallian said that an autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday 14 July 2020 at the Forensic Science Centre in St James, to determine the actual cause of death of Winston Kallian.
Noel declined to comment any further on his father’s situation.
Police told Guardian Media the family members are in shock and very distraught over the grisly discovery.
Homicide detectives are continuing investigations.
