Nicholas Paul aka “Jonsey”, a 30-year-old Petit Valley man, has been charged with murder.
He was also charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.
According to police reports, the incident occurred last year on Christmas Day in the vicinity of Humming Bird Circular, Sparrow Drive, Four Roads. The deceased, Michael Hernandez also called Birdman, was sitting in a vehicle when an unidentified lone gunman approached him. The suspect fired several shots, and the victim sustained wounds to his right arm and upper and lower torso. He later died of his injuries. The suspect, of Sparrow Drive, Petit Valley, was arrested on May 29th, for possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Officers of the Homicide Region One Office under the supervision of Snr Supt Chandool and W/Supt Martin conducted extensive enquiries. Legal Officer Sgt Mongroo and Investigator PC Aris-Mendez met with the DPP, after which the suspect was charged for the offences. He is expected to appear before a Magistrate at the Port of Spain Virtual Court today.
