Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has told a PNM meeting that two persons were hired to assassinate him in 2015 on the fringes of the general election.
The prime minister made the claim as he addressed PNM supporters at Piggott's corner in Belmont, Friday night.
He told the meeting that both would-be killers chose not to go ahead with the contract.
He said Special Branch police got involved when the second killer was hired and that while he was under their protection, he was unable to go some places freely.
The prime minister said that he was making the statement, not because he wanted to be 'irresponsible', but because he wanted people to know how far others would have gone to prevent him from becoming prime minister.
"This happened in Trinidad and Tobago in 2015," he said.
He said he was also making the statement as Chairman of the National Security Council.
More on this when it becomes available.
