A police officer with 23 years of service was crushed to death at his home on Monday night when a tree fell on his home at Mt D’Or.According to a police report, Cpl Jones, was at his wooden home at Upper Spring Valley when at about 9.30 pm a large tree fell on the house.On hearing the crashing sound, Jones’ nephews ran to his aid but saw him motionless lying under a large branch.Jones’ body was viewed by the District Medical Officer who pronounced him dead.
An autopsy was expected to be conducted at the Forensic Science Centre in St James on yesterday.
Guardian Media was told that Jones was 42-years-old and was last assigned to the Besson Street Police Station.
However, he was not currently carrying out his duties as he was sent home on suspension.
The circumstances surrounding his suspension were not, however, disclosed.
