The Princes Town home of a police sergeant was fire bombed this morning.
Sgt Jaipersad Baran was asleep with his wife and three children at their Iere Village home, police said. However, around 2.30 am, Sgt Baran was jolted from his sleep by a loud explosion and on checking, discovered his garage was on fire.
He tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, but the blaze was too intense.
Guardian Media understands Sgt Baran and his family were able to escape the house unhurt, but the entire house was damaged, three vehicles were destroyed, and their pet birds also perished in the blaze.
Sgt Baran was last attached to the Central Division but currently is on vacation leave.
Officers of the Princes Town Police Station and the Princes Town and San Fernando Fire Stations are investigating.
