Junior Ali, 21, of Princes Town has been charged with wasting police time.
He appeared virtually before Magistrate Indira MisirGosine at the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court yesterday. Ali pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $1,000 or in default, three months’ hard labour.
According to police reports, the accused alleged that on March 29th he was taken at gun point by two men. They carried him to a bushy area 50 feet off Railway Reserve Road. Ali alleges that he was beaten with the gun butt on his head causing injury. The men allegedly tied Ali to a tree, relieved him of $3,700, before they escaped. Ali reported that he later managed to free himself and ran to safety.
PC Ali and WPC Hamilton visited the scene and conducted initial enquiries. Princes Town CID spearheaded by Sgt Teeluck conducted further enquiries and subsequently arrested and formally charged Mr Ali.
