The Satya Anand Ashram (SAA), which sent a complaint on social media blogger Darrel Dookoo to the Equal Opportunity Commission, has called on Prime Minister Keith Rowley to terminate Dookoo’s Public Utilities Ministry contract.
SAA Pundit Satyanand Maharaj made the call yesterday following Monday’s complaints by UNC MP Barry Padarath about Dookoo and defence of Dookoo by Public Utilities Minister Robert Le Hunt who said Dookoo was successful with WASA’s water conservation campaign.
Padarath yesterday took Le Hunte to task for the defence of Dookoo. Padarath added he’s exploring all options regarding social media posts about him and all posts have been archived.
“The real issue is whether PNM supports utterances on race, religion, prejudice and hate speech,” he added.
Pundit Maharaj said in August an SAA member made the complaint to the EOC about Dookoo, “But the EOC hasn’t acted yet,” he added yesterday.
Maharaj claimed the ministry’s hiring of Dookoo lacked transparent process and that in itself was of concerns. “I, therefore, call upon our Prime Minister to immediately intervene and terminate the hiring of (Dookoo) to lead the national water conservation campaign,” he said expressing similar concerns as Padarath.
“He uses the fact that he’s of Indian descent as political cover to attack the Indian community and recently, the Hindu community in the vilest, vulgar, obscene manner. By associating himself and the Government with Mr Dookoo, Dr Rowley will entrench perception of the PNM’s resentment and callous indifference towards the Hindu community.”
“I urge Dr Rowley to view Dookoo’s blog to determine whether it’s right for Government to use taxpayers’ money to hire such an individual. However, Dr Rowley wouldn’t be able to play those videos within earshot of his children.”
