Two bandits were shot by a retired police officer during a robbery at a bar along the Lady Young Road in Morvant yesterday.
According to police, around 5 pm two men entered the establishment asking for the price of a case of beer.
After being told the price, police said one of the men said they didn’t have all the money and one walked out.
The next man then asked for a cigarette and when the bartender turned around, the man allegedly pulled out a gun and announced a hold-up.
A retired police officer who was in the bar at the time took out his firearm and called on the gunman to stop.
Police said the two suspects opened fire on the retiree but missed.
He returned fire and one of the suspects was shot and died on the spot. The other was injured and collapsed along Matapal Street as he attempted to run off.
The injured suspect taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
