A 28-year-old man, who lives in San Fernando, is currently in police custody assisting officers with their investigations into the discovery of a firearm and a quantity of ammunition this morning.
According to police reports, at 1:15 am today PCs Boochun, Raghoonanan and George, were patrolling Hankey Street, San Fernando, when they saw a man acting suspiciously. Upon seeing the officers, the man darted off into an open field which caused the officers to give chase on foot.
The suspect was then seen removing an object from his waist and proceeded to hide it in a plant, before being subdued by officers along a track at Mt Moriah Road, San Fernando.
A search of the suspect’s person and his immediate vicinity was conducted and yielded the seizure of a 45 calibre pistol outfitted with a magazine with nine rounds of 45 calibre ammunition.
The man was immediately arrested and taken to the San Fernando Police Station pending further enquiries.
