Executives of The Supermarket Association of Trinidad and Tobago (SATT) held follow-up discussions with Trade and Industry Minister, Senator Paula Gopee-Scoon and Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Fisheries, Senator Kazim Hosein yesterday.
Food security was a foremost discussion in the context of food prices as all stakeholders recognise the global uncertainty which has presented to domestic importers of food. To this effect, a commitment to a continuing collaboration with both Ministries on a quarterly basis was made to examine initiatives that can contribute a productive scope. As a result, SATT also registered its interest in the upcoming Agri-Investment Forum and Expo 2022.
Food fraud was also examined from the various perspectives of international, regional and local manufacturing including supply chain analysis. Holistic measures to combat food fraud to protect local consumers were high on the agenda. To this end, discussions to further collaborations will include Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards, Chemistry, Food and Drugs Division as well as the joint involvement of the various ministries of Trade and Industry, Agriculture and National Security to combat the scourge of illicit goods which continues to plague our nation.
SATT stands committed, together with the Consumer Affairs Division, to ensure that
quality pricing on behalf of the nation's customers remains available.
