Police have arrested an acting Superintendent of Prisons under a Preventive Detention Order.
The officer, who has more than 20 years’ service, was under investigation as part of the probe into a smuggling ring at the Maximum Security Prison.
He was most recently attached to the Carrera Island Prison, where he was transferred shortly after former acting Prisons Commissioner Carlos Corraspe was sent on over 200 days’ vacation leave in July.
Guardian Media understands another senior prison officer was also detained briefly on Thursday night for questioning but was released.
He reported to work as rostered this morning.
