A 38-year-old contractor of Hard Bargain Village, Williamsville, was charged with one count of larceny on Saturday 18th September 2021.
Official police reports state that in February 2021, a contractor received money totalling $37,000 from a homeowner as a down payment towards undertaking roadworks on behalf of the homeowner. A contract was entered into between both parties detailing the scope of works, total cost, schedule of payments, and the start and completion dates.
After the down payment was made, the contractor reportedly refused to answer phone calls from the homeowner and no work was done on the project.
After several failed attempts to contact the contractor, the homeowner made a report to the Fraud Squad in April 2021. Investigations were conducted by Cpl Cummings, of the Fraud Squad.
As a result of the investigations, 38-year-old NIGEL CHADEE was arrested by officers of the Fraud Squad on Saturday 18th September 2021.
Chadee was charged with the larceny of $37,000 and is due to appear virtually at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court on Monday 20th September 2021.
