A third man appeared yesterday for the kidnapping, rape and robbery of two young women in south Trinidad last month.
Rueben Thomas, 20, a labourer, of Diamond Village, San Fernando, was denied bail on eight charges stemming from the alleged attack.
The incident reportedly took place on December 29.
The women, both 20 years old, told police they were kidnapped, raped and robbed by four men.
Two other accused Joshua Williams, 31, and Jerod Boysie, 20, appeared in the same court— the San Fernando First Court— last week on similar charges. They were also denied bail.
Thomas was arrested last Friday and subsequently charged by PC Gosine of the San Fernando CID.
The charges alleged that Thomas kidnapped the women at Diamond Village and took them to the M2 Ring Road, Debe, where he raped both of them.
The prosecution is also claiming that he beat and robbed the victims of their cellphones, $40 cash and a pair of gold earrings valued $300.
Thomas is also alleged to have committed an act of grievous sexual assault on the women.
He was not asked to plead to the charges.
Prosecutor Cleyon Seedan told the court the officer who laid the charges was in Port-of-Spain yesterday to clarify a query on the fingerprint trace in order to determine if the accused had previous convictions or pending matters.
Magistrate Alicia Chankar remanded Thomas into custody and adjourned the matter to tomorrow.
