Tobago recorded its first positive case of COVID-19 in 30 days, the announcement came via a news release from the Division of Health Wellness and Development.
According to the release, Secretary for Health, Wellness and Family Development Tracy Davidson-Celestine said that vaccination is critical to the long-term solution.
“This first case, that we know of, after 30 days, shows how vulnerable we are at a moment’s notice.
“The Tobago public has been observing the protocols, now we just need to go one step forward and get vaccinated. Be practical, be proactive and be vaccinated. “
The Secretary also praised the country’s management of the COVID-19 crisis as she said Trinidad and Tobago has been fortunate that our actions have kept this country safer than most.
“The economic fallout has been great, but every life lost is a pain that we should not have to endure. Our detractors, too, have been kept safe by the actions of the Government and Tobago House of Assembly. Let’s trust in the decision to get our nation vaccinated and get our lives on track.”
The total number of samples submitted to the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) and other local sites to test for COVID-19 is 2936 of that amount, 156 were positive and there were 2 fatalities.
