Trinidadian Mishael Morgan has put this country in the spotlight for their achievements in the film industry.

Morgan won Best Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series, Actress. The 35-year-old is the first Black woman to win in this category. This was Morgan's first win and first nomination for her role as Amanda Sinclair.

In her acceptance speech at the 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, Morgan referred to her native T&T as she urged others to keep striving to achieve their goals.
She said, “I was born on…Trinidad and Tobago…and now I’m standing on an international stage, and I am being honoured regardless of the cover of my skin ...for being the best at what I do."

Cathy Tyson wins 2022 BAFTA award for Supporting Actress
Meanwhile, Cathy Tyson received the 2022 BAFTA award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film Help, a Channel 4 drama set in a care home in Liverpool, UK.
Tyson, 56, is the daughter of Trinidadian lawyer Charles Tyson.
This year’s BAFTA is Tyson’s second film industry accolade. In 1986, she won the Los Angeles Film Critics Association award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film Mona Lisa.
Tyson was nominated for a BAFTA in 1987 for Best Actress in a Leading Role. That year, she was also nominated for a Golden Globe in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.
Tyson has founded a theatre company called Pitch Lake, to address the lack of leading roles in British theatre for black and minority-ethnic mid-career actors and women in particular.
During her acceptance speech, Tyson described the win as “a bit surreal” and recalled growing up as a teenager when Channel 4 was founded.
She said it had proven its diversity while at the same time providing a voice for the people.
Pledging her solidarity with the people of Russia and Ukraine, Tyson thanked God, her parents and her partner for supporting and encouraging her to grow.
