A 30-year-old truck driver from Rio Claro was granted bail in the sum of $12,000, or a cash alternative of $3,000, when he appeared before acting Senior Magistrate Ava Vandenburg-Bailey at the Mayaro Magistrates’ Court Monday.
According to a release from the TTPS, Ravi Ramoutar pleaded guilty to the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was also ordered to have no contact with the victim, his ex-girlfriend. The matter was adjourned to Monday, November 22.
Police said around 9 am on Thursday, September 30, the woman left her home in company with the accused, who was driving a black Ford Ranger vehicle.
According to the police, while driving along the Naparima Mayaro Road, Mayaro, the woman and the man got into an argument and the accused allegedly dealt her several blows to her face.
A report was made at the Rio Claro Police Station on October 1 and investigations were conducted by the Gender-Based Violence Unit, which resulted in the arrest of the accused on Sunday.
The investigation was supervised by (Ag) W/ASP Francis, W/Insp Bacchus, and W/Ag/Sgt Felix.
