The United National Congress is yet to select a candidate for the Chaguanas West constituency in the upcoming General Election.
An Executive Member of the party confirmed this in response to rumours that Attorney Dinesh Rambally had been given the nod as the UNC’s candidate for Chaguanas West, currently held by Ganga Singh.
The Executive Member told CNC3 News, “Chaguanas West hasn’t been screened yet, so that’s not true”.
When contacted this morning, Rambally told us, “I can assure you that I know nothing of that”. He, however, declined to comment on whether or not he will be hoping to face the polls.
The UNC will continue screening candidates today.
We are told Anita Haynes, the party’s Public Relations Officer is eyeing the Tabaquite seat. She will go before the screening committee today. Dr Suruj Rambachan is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Tabaquite however, last August he announced his decision to bow out of the political arena.
The party has already selected four candidates.
They are; Sean Sobers for San Fernando West, Michelle Benjamin for Moruga/Tableland, Kenya Charles for St Anns and UNC Senator Taharqa Obika for Point Fortin.
