An un­oc­cu­pied house in Pe­nal was de­stroyed by fire on Mon­day night.

Po­lice said the house be­longed to a Moru­ga man who died a month ago.

Of­fi­cers did not pro­vide the man’s name or de­tails as to how he died.

A neigh­bour re­port­ed to po­lice that around 11 pm there was a low volt­age and short­ly af­ter she heard crack­ling sounds and saw the house on fire. The house was de­scribed as a sin­gle-sto­ry, two-bed­room ply­wood struc­ture.  The house was fit­ted with elec­tric­i­ty.

Po­lice said af­ter the man died his rel­a­tives re­moved all ap­pli­ances. 

A team of fire of­fi­cers un­der the su­per­vi­sion of Fire Sub­sta­tion Of­fi­cer Mod­este-La Fo­cade ex­tin­guished the blaze.
