A total of 32 people, including 18 Venezuelans and 14 Chinese nationals, are in police custody after being arrested at a sports bar in Curepe early yesterday.
The group was held for breaching the Public Health Ordinance Regulations.
In a release yesterday, the Police Service said they were collaborating with the Immigration Division to ascertain the status of the 32 immigrants who were held at the facility located along the Southern Main Road.
Acting on information, officers of the Northern Division Task Force Area West (NDTFAW) and the St Joseph Police Station Criminal Investigations Department (CID) went to the location and conducted a raid, during which they also found a quantity of cocaine hidden in a bathroom stall at the bar.
The group remained in police custody up to today, pending further investigations.
In an unrelated matter and also acting on information, the same party of officers led by Insp Hernandez, Sgt Thomas and Cpl Ramcharan along with the officers of the Canine Unit, proceeded to an open lot at Waterfall Road, Maracas, St Joseph, where one homemade shotgun was recovered.
The TTPS is urging anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of a suspect to contact the St Joseph Police Station at 662-4038, or call the police hotlines at 999 and 555.
