A man wanted for murder was killed during an alleged police-involved shooting early on Thursday morning at Wharf Trace, Maracas, St Joseph, after he allegedly chopped and wounded a police officer.
According to a police report, at about 3:30 am, officers from Homicide Region 2 (led by Ag/Cpl Jones), along with officers from MOPS, were on enquiries along Wharf Trace, Maracas St. Joseph, when they approached a house at #68 Wharf Trace.
It is alleged that MOPS officer PC Persad was attacked by the suspect, 31-year-old Ricardo Ramsumair, who was wanted for the murder of Douglas Ellie in St Augustine, which occurred on October 19, 2020.
A member of the MOPS team allegedly fired one round of 5.56 ammunition in the direction of the suspect from his rifle. Ramsumair was wounded.
He and the injured officer were taken for medical attention at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where the suspect was pronounced dead.
PC Persad, who received a chop to his hand, also was taken to hospital for treatment.
Senior officers visited the scene and investigations are continuing.
