The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) expresses deep concern about the issue detailed in a “letter to the editor” published in the Trinidad Guardian newspaper, on Saturday, November 2, 2019, headlined “EMA a waste of time?”
This headline itself was rather unfortunate, as this was gleaned from a one-liner in a letter dealing with the inability of other enforcement agencies to deal with a noise nuisance.
The EMA sympathises with the distress and discomfort experienced by the author and other residents of the community, due to the excessive noise levels, which emanated from a nearby bar. While the EMA has been working assiduously with all our stakeholders, including the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and entertainment facilities nationwide to monitor and control noise pollution, unfortunately, there are still owners and managers of such facilities who go beyond the standards specified in EMA’s Noise Control Pollution Rules (NCPR) or any noise variation issued.
The EMA is requesting members of the public who experience any levels of discomfort, to lodge a complaint at the nearest police station, providing specific details about the complaint. Additionally, the public is invited to contact our emergency hotline at anytime on any day at 680-9588, in the event of an environmental emergency.
