I will like to bring to the public’s attention how I will choose to vote this election. Firstly, let me take the opportunity to showcase my criteria for judgment.
I reside in St. Helena and in 2018 when it flooded; I lost everything in my house. I applied along with all my neighbors for the flood relief grant and unfortunately everyone who applied received $20,000.00 except for me. On numerous occasions, I visited the Ministry of Social Welfare and was told to wait until I got a phone call since my name was on the list for the grant. Months passed by and I still haven’t received a phone call. I visited the Ministry again but was given the same answer which is to wait on the call.
During this time, I visited the Prime Minister’s office and was told they will advocate on my behalf. When I contacted the office of the Prime Minister for an update, I was told by Ms. Richards that she wrote the Ministry but she hasn’t received a reply and she will write again.
My endeavors to the office of the Prime Minister proved futile every time I contacted them. I then emailed Camille Robinson- Regis twice and got no response. My attorney wrote the Ministry and is still waiting on a reply.
It has been over two (2) years since I have been in this back and forth situation without any results. It is very unfortunate that other communities’ issues were addressed and the monetary grants were received and we, the people of St. Helena and Kelly Village are neglected by their office.
I hope on August 10th, 2020 everyone makes the right choice and vote for the party that will truly represent them and work on their behalf.
